Forbes: Jobseekers Reject Offers On The Spot When Pay Isn’t What They Expect
October 27. 2022
Policy Director & Deputy Legal Director Jessica Ramey Stender was interviewed for a Forbes article about the benefits of listing salary/wage ranges on job postings. She also spoke about the ERA-sponsored Stronger California 2022 bill SB 1162, the Pay Transparency for Pay Equity Act, which will go into effect January 2023. In addition to requiring salary/wage ranges to be publicly listed on nearly all job postings in California, the bill will also require most employers to report to a government agency how much they pay employees according to race and gender, in order to identify and eliminate gender and racial pay discrimination.
Jessica Ramey Stender, deputy legal director at Equal Rights Advocates, a sponsor of the salary bill in California, says, “Women, and especially women of color, are literally being robbed of wages every year. That is money that could go to rent, food, diapers, education, retirement savings.”
