3 Ways to Support AANHPI Women’s Equal Pay Day

April 3 is AANHPI (Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander) Women’s Equal Pay Day.

Join the National Asian Pacific American Women’s Forum (NAPAWF), Empowering Pacific Islander Communities (EPIC), Equal Pay Today and advocates, lawmakers, and community members from across the country in a day of action raising awareness about the wage gap that impacts AANHPI women and their families.

AANHPI women working full-time, year-round are paid an average 90 cents per $1 paid to non-Hispanic white men, according to the latest U.S. Census data. When you include those working part-time or part-year, this number drops to 80 cents.

But, that’s only part of the #AANHPIEqualPay story. For certain communities under the AANHPI umbrella, the wage gap is far greater. Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander women in particular face tremendous economic disparities, including stark wage gap inequities that can vary widely by state. Bangladeshi, Nepalese, and Burmese women are some of the lowest paid people in the nation.

The wage gap affects all women. And we’ve all had enough.

Here’s how you can help demand equal pay for AANHPI women with us:

  1. Raise awareness by participating in the national social media storm at 11:00 am PT/2:00 pm ET. Our new toolkit makes digital advocacy easier than ever!
  2. Send a pre-drafted email urging Congress to pass the Paycheck Fairness Act, which would strengthen protections for women and close loopholes in the Equal Pay Act of 1963.
  3. Donate to support equal pay. Help fund equal pay awareness and empower our mission to close the wage gap by giving to the Equal Pay Today campaign.

AANHPI Women’s Equal Pay Day co-leading organization are NAPAWF, EPIC, and Equal Pay Today (a project of Equal Rights Advocates).
