What’s at stake, and what you can do

History has taught us where this leads without immediate action. Here are 2 things you can do right now.

They call it “DEI cuts.” But what the Trump Administration really intends is the re-segregation of our workplaces and schools, until they are “American-born,” white, and het-cis male only.

• Outright dismissal of facts about discrimination as “woke gender ideology”
• Gutted civil rights enforcement power from the Office of Federal Contractor Compliance, making 36 million employees vulnerable to harassment
• Refusal to process race and sex discrimination claims in schools
• Promises to drop regulations requiring workplace accommodation for certain pregnancy-related conditions
• Unlawful firing of civil rights personnel and termination of civil rights programs equalizing opportunities for qualified applicants and candidates
• Attempted erasure of people with nonbinary gender identities from federal recognition
• Abandoned discrimination defense of LGBTQ+ workers to prioritize instead attacks against “un-American” employers of the immigrant workers

Black History Month reminds us that we cannot shy away from naming and responding to these actions for what they truly are. We are facing the perfect storm of misogyny, white supremacy, authoritarianism, xenophobia, and outrageous complacency by those who are charged with defending our communities from executive overreach. History has taught us where this leads without immediate action.

But our movement is already fighting back in many different ways, including in the courts. Just last week, a federal judge blocked 2 of Trump’s anti-DEI executive orders, and additional courts are enjoining other EOs. Watch my video explainer here.  More lawsuits are to come.
