SF Chronicle: In the wake of #MeToo, celebrity redemption is a ‘problematic placebo’

The San Francisco Chronicle’s Arts & Entertainment section ran a feature story about celebrity “#MeToo redemption stories,” or celebrities who are trying to make comebacks after being publicly shamed for sexual misconduct.
ERA Executive Director Noreen Farrell is quoted in the story, including:
I think redemption stories are a problematic placebo...They’re not only a distraction from the real heroes of the #MeToo movement, the survivors; it’s actually potentially dangerous... One has to show that they’re really part of the solution and not the problem. ‘I’m sorry’ isn’t enough anymore.”
