LGBTQIA+ Equal Pay Awareness Day: 3 Ways You Can Elevate Equality
On June 13, we are partnering with coalition members across the country to highlight the lack of wage gap data for LGBTQIA+ communities. This LGBTQIA+ Equal Pay Awareness Day, we unite to challenge a system that devalues our work, discriminates against our identities, and denies us economic security. Together, we strive for a future where all contributions are valued equally.
Championing Equality Through an Intersectional Lens
Our fight for equal pay acknowledges that the wage gap is even more pronounced for transgender and gender non-conforming individuals, LGBTQIA+ people of color, LGBTQIA+ women, immigrants, and other marginalized identities. We advocate for inclusive solutions that amplify all voices within our diverse community.
Understanding the Wage Gap
Despite limited national data, the Human Rights Campaign Foundation found that LGBTQIA+ workers earn about 90 cents for every dollar earned by the typical U.S. worker, with LGBTQIA+ women earning only 87 cents. In a year marked by anti-LGBTQIA+ legislation, we raise our voices against wage inequality and related issues like employment and housing discrimination. We push for comprehensive data collection to celebrate our victories and identify new challenges. Wage equality is a future we can create, so what are you waiting for?
